Hokie ClubLOUISVILLE, Ky. – Antonio Lopez Segura qualified for Nationals at the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 11 at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, finishing fifth with a time of 29:58.2.

Lopez Segura came off the starting line looking strong in fifth place as he hit the 1k mark with a time of 3:04.1. He settled back into the pack in 10th place at the 6.8k mark saving his energy for the final leg of the race, where he fought his way back to fifth. He is the tenth athlete from Virginia Tech to finish within the top five at regionals, the first since Peter Seufer in 2019. Lopez Segura earned All- ACC honors at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct.28 at the Panorama Farms Country Course crossing the line 11th with a time of 23:19.0.
North Carolina and Virginia will represent the region at the NCAA Cross Country Championships scoring first (61 points) and second (83 points), respectively. The Virginia Tech men's team finished 12th with 358 points.
In the women's 6k, two Tech women placed within the top 50, Cheyenne Leatham and Ava Hassebrock. Leatham led the Hokies efforts in the women's 6k scoring 30th with a time of 20.58.1. Hassebrock crossed the line shortly after stopping the clock at 21:07.9 scoring 37th. Hannah Ballowe crossed the finish line 54th with a time of 21:24.7, followed by Grace Boone in 70th (21:43.5) and Chase Kappeler in 99th (22:16.8).
The defending National Champions, NC State, finished first with 25 points and will advance to the Championships with North Carolina (76 points).
