Wake Forest and Duke on deck for the Hokies

Game Notes

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech volleyball team welcomes Wake Forest and Duke to Cassell Coliseum. Tech will take on the Demon Deacons on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first midweek of the season. The Hokies will then take on the Blue Devils on Friday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.
 
THINGS TO KNOW
 
Scouting Wake Forest
 
So far this season, the Demon Deacons are 13-10 overall and 5-7 in ACC play. Wake Forest is coming off a weekend with a 3-0 loss to Pitt and a 3-0 sweep over Virginia. Against Virginia, the Demon Deacons hit .358, their second-best hitting percentage this season. Paige Crawford leads the team with 230 kills, averaging 3.24 kills per set. She also leads the team with 3.73 points per set. Defensively, Emmy Ogogor has 80 blocks on the year with .98 blocks per set. Olivia Franke isn't far behind with 78 blocks and .95 blocks per set.
 
Scouting Duke
 
Duke also has an overall record of 13-10 and an ACC record of 4-8. The Blue Devils split the most recent weekend, falling to Louisville 3-0 and defeating Notre Dame 3-2. The Blue Devils recorded a reverse sweep against the Irish, falling in the first two sets but rallying to come from behind and take the final three sets.  Gracie Johnson recorded her 1,000th career kill in the win and also led Duke with 20 kills and 15 digs. She also added three aces and two blocks. Johnson leads the team with 397 points and 5.03 points per set. She adds 329 kills and 4.16 kills per set. She also leads the team with 50 aces on the year.
 
Season Highs
 
Hanna Borer had a solid weekend against Virginia and No. 7 Pitt.  She had a season-high 45 assists against Virginia and a total of 65 assist over the weekend, with an average of 8.13 per set. Anabel Zier also had a season-high of 14 kills and 17.5 points against Virginia. Additionally, Logan Mosley had a season-high 14 digs against Virginia.
 
Cates on the Court
 
Freshman Sierra Cates has seen time on the court since the Louisville match on Oct. 14. So far, she has recorded 24 digs over her 16 sets this season. She had her two best matches against Virginia and Pitt last weekend, recording eight digs in the match vs. UVA and a season-high 10 digs against the Panthers.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies are back on the road again next week. On Friday, Nov. 11 Tech will take on Virginia at 7 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. for the second game of the Commonwealth Clash. The Hokies will then travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Wake Forest again on Sunday, Nov. 13.
