BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Nasir Peoples will don the No. 25 jersey on Saturday at Pitt, after he was told in a team meeting Thursday afternoon.
Peoples will wear the iconic number for the first time of his career, marking the third Hokie this season to rock it for the first time (Ny'Quee Hawkins, Peter Moore).
"It means a lot, with just understanding the importance of the number to this university and to this football team," Peoples said. "I'm excited and honored to wear No. 25 when we go play Pitt."
Peoples is coming off of an outing at North Carolina on Oct. 1 that totaled two solo tackles and one pass breakup. The redshirt senior has 23 tackles on the year, including three TFLs.
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
