Hokies to host NC State and North Carolina

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech volleyball welcomes NC State and North Carolina to Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies will take on NC State on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., followed by North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. 

THINGS TO KNOW 

Scouting NC State 

NC State is currently ranked fifth in the ACC with 3-1 record in ACC play. Players to watch are graduate student Priscilia Hernandez, junior Riley Shaak and freshman Ava Brizard. Hernandez currently leads the Wolfpack in digs with 229 and an average of 4.42 per set. Shaak is the current leader in blocks with 74 and an average of 1.40 per set. Brizard leads the Wolfpack in kills with 171 and an average of 3.23 per set.  

Scouting North Carolina 

North Carolina is ranked 13th in the ACC and 1-3 in ACC play. Parker Austin is ranked second in the ACC in service aces with 26 and an average of .51 per set. Mabrey Shaffmaster is also ranked fifth in the ACC for kills with 196 and an average of 3.77 per set. Anita Babic is ranked sixth in the ACC for assists with a total of 444 and an average of 8.38 per set. 

Last Weekend Leaders 

Last weekend, the Hokies took on Boston College and Syracuse. Cara Lewis had a total of 17 kills over the two matches and had a season-high 11 kills against Syracuse. Maddie Slagle led the Hokies in digs over the weekend with 22 over the two matches and an average of 3.14 per set. Sydney Petersen had a total of 5 blocks and an average of .71 per set. 

Midway Point 

The Hokies are currently halfway through the season, with a 9-6 mark overall and a 2-2 record in ACC play. The current kills leader is Cera Powell with a total of 144 and an average of 2.82 per set. Maddie Slagle leads the team in digs with a total of 201 and an average of 3.72 per set. Hanna Borer currently leads the Hokies in assists with a total of 331 and leads in service aces with 17. 

UP NEXT 

The Hokies are back on the road next weekend to take on Louisville on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., and Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
