First Half Lookback: Virginia Tech at No. 24 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – It was a defensive battle the first 30 minutes between Virginia Tech and No. 24 NC State, with the score being in favor of the Wolfpack 3-0 heading into halftime on Thursday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The first quarter saw both defenses shine early, with the total offensive yards by both teams combining for just 63 yards.

Things in the second quarter picked up a little bit, with the Wolfpack driving past mid-field and getting into the red zone for the first time of the game on their final drive, but Tech did not allow a touchdown, as the Pack made a field goal with five seconds left before half.

Quarterback Grants Wells is 5-for-7 in the air for 33 yards, while running back Malachi Thomas has 15 yards on the ground off of eight carries. Defensively, linebacker Alan Tisdale has a team-high seven tackles, including a sack, while defensive lineman Jaylen Griffin has a sack, as well.

The Hokies will get the ball to start the second half.
