CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Antonio Lopez Segura earned All- ACC honors at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct.28 at the Panorama Farms Country Course crossing the line first for the Hokies with a time of 23:19.0. Lopez earned the award finishing 11th overall and being among the top 21 athletes to cross the line.
The men's 8k got underway at 10:40 a.m. with Lopez Segura staying within the top 15 throughout the entire race. He started the day in 10th place at the 2k split, working his way up to second at the 5k mark. Lopez Segura slowly fell back into the crowd in the final 1000m finishing 11th.
Adding to the Hokies' score, Viktor Idhammar scored 57th clocking in a personal-best 8k time of 24:14.7. Declan Rymer scored 58th (24:19.2), followed by Dave Whitfield scoring 59th (24:20.9). and Alec Fleming 66th (24:29.1). The men's team finished eighth with 251 points, one spot up from their ninth place finish in 2021. Wake Forest took home the trophy scoring 44 points.
In the women's 6k, Lindsey Butler led the way for the Hokies finishing 26th with a personal-best time of 20:22.8. Butler started the race in 34th, gaining two spots at the 3k and 5k splits (30). In the final leg of the race Butler kicked hard to make up ground gaining four spots to 26th. Virginia Tech had four women cross the line scoring within the top 50, including Butler.
Senior Cheyenne Leatham scored 36th with a personal-best time of 20:32.2. Finishing third for the Hokies, Ava Hassebrock stopped the clock with a time of 20:36.6 scoring 39th. Grace Boone ran a personal-best time of 20:56.6 scoring 50th. Rounding out the Hokies score, Hannah Ballowe scored 68th with a time of 21:26.7. Tech finished eighth with a score of 219 points, NC State finished first with 34 points.
