BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Friday to compete at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships in Charlottesville, Va. Leading the men, Antonio Lopez Segura has crossed the line first for the Hokie men throughout the entire 2022 season. Lopez Segura ran a personal-best 6k time of 18:31.6 to start the season on Sept. 2 finishing third overall. At the Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational, Lopez Segura stopped the clock with a personal-best 8k time of 23:15.5 finishing third.
Ava Hassebrock and Cheyenne Leatham have been looking strong this season as both women finished within the top five at the Virginia Tech Invitational with personal-best times. Hassebrock claimed first-place with a time of 14:44.1, Leatham finished with a time of 14:44.4. The women's team competed at the Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational finishing fourth with 146 points, and were ahead of ACC rivals Wake Forest and Boston College. Hassebrock finished 18th with a personal-best time of 17:16.6, followed by Leatham finishing 19th with a time of 17:17.7.
Smithfield, the presenting sponsor of the Commonwealth Clash, enters its second year sponsoring the friendly, statewide rivalry between Virginia Tech and Virginia.
