BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's William Ross will don the No. 25 jersey on Thursday at NC State, after he was told in a team meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Ross will wear the iconic number for the first time of his career, marking the fifth Hokie this season to rock it for the first time (Ny'Quee Hawkins, Peter Moore, Nasir Peoples, P.J. Prioleau).
"It's an honor to be selected by Coach Pry and the rest of his staff here to wear No. 25 Thursday night at NC State," Ross said. "But it's also an honor to represent Coach Beamer and his special teams legacy here at Virginia Tech."

Ross has had quite the start so far this season as the primary placekicker, making eight of his nine attempts on field goals, including a long of 49, and is 14 for 15 on extra points. He was the first Tech kicker to make his first eight field goals to start a season since 2007 (Jed Dunlevy).
Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey.
