CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ryan Fishback won the ITA Atlantic Regional singles championship on Monday afternoon after registering two top-10 triumphs in the semifinals in finals.
Fishback rallied after dropping the first set against Virginia's Chris Rodesch – who was ranked No. 7 in ITA's preseason rankings – to take home a three-set win, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In the final, Fishback faced No. 4 Inaki Montes de la Torre, another Virginia student-athlete, but Montes was forced to retire due to injury in the first set.
After entering the field as the No. 4 seed, Fishback cruised to three two-set wins in the first three rounds before having to battle to a three-set win in the semifinals.
