GREENVILLE, S.C. – Virginia Tech senior Daniel Azallion fired a 7-under 206 to tie for third at the Furman Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday at Furman University Golf Club (par 71, 7,005 yards).
Fueled by a team-best 12 birdies, Azallion recorded his first top-three showing of the season. Playing in his home state, he carded all three rounds in the 60s (69-68-69).
The Hokies finished fifth as a team, signing for a 5-over 857 (292-279-286). Chattanooga ran away with the team title behind a tournament-best, 11-under 273 in Sunday's final round. The Mocs concluded the event at 14-under 838, while Davidson and James Madison tied for second at even-par 852. Furman placed fourth, one shot ahead of Tech at 4-over 856. VT led the tournament in pars (170).
Furman's Will Morlan and JMU's Daniel Cheng tied for medalist honors at 9-under 204, two shots clear of Azallion and Chattanooga's Paul Conroy.
Tech is next in action at the Battle at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, South Carolina. The two-day tournament runs Feb. 6-7 and will be hosted by College of Charleston.
