Virginia Tech falls to No. 5 Notre Dame 1-0

BLACKSBURG, -- Virginia Tech fell 1-0 at Thompson Field to No. 5 Notre Dame on Thursday, Oct. 20. 

Virginia Tech drops to an overall record of 9-5-2  and 3-4-1 in ACC action following the defeat.

How it Happened

After the Fighting Irish took a 1-0 lead into halftime, Virginia Tech kept Notre Dame scoreless the remainder of the game. The Hokies gave up the only goal of the match on a handball called in the seventh minute of the match, leading to the free kick goal by Korbin Albert.  Taylor Price had a close chance in 57th minute kicking the ball high up the center just above goal post. 

The Hokies recorded 10 shots in the loss, five of them on goal. Virginia Tech faced 15 shots from Notre Dame with three shots on goal.

Game Note

  • Hargrove piled up two saves for the Hokies out of 15 total Fighting Irish shots.
  • Virginia Tech put five shots on goal.
  • Natalie Mitchell recorded four shots, three on goal
