BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech volleyball team continues its road trip this weekend, heading to Florida to take on Florida State and Miami. The Hokies will take on the Seminoles on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. They will then travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to take on the Hurricanes on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
THINGS TO KNOW
Scouting Florida State
Florida State is currently 4-4 in ACC play and 12-7 overall after falling on the road to No. 8 Pitt and Virginia last weekend. The Noles rank third in the ACC with a .258 hitting percentage and 890 kills. They also rank third in opponent hitting percentage, holding opposing teams to just a .172. Audrey Koenig ranks 10th in the conference with .33 service aces per set and Andjelija Draskovic is averaging 6.42 assists per set to rank 10th in the ACC.
Scouting Miami
Miami is also 4-4 in ACC play with an 11-8 overall record. Leading the Hurricanes are senior Savannah Vach, senior Abby Casiano and junior Angela Grieve. Vach is ranked first in the ACC in assists with a total of 753 and an average of 10.32 per set. Casiano ranks sixth in the ACC in hitting percentage with a .364, leading the Canes offensively. Grieve also helps out the Canes offensively, ranking sixth in the ACC in kills with a total of 255 and an average of 3.75 per set.
ACC Debut
Freshman Jordan Hallman made her first start of the season on Friday against Louisville. She had played in just one set prior to Friday's match. Against the Cardinals, Hallman posted 9.5 points, which ranked third on the team. She also had three aces which led the Hokies. Along with the service aces, the freshman had four kills with a .429 hitting percentage and four block assists. She followed that up with another start against Notre Dame on Sunday, adding a kill and a block assist in the match
Last Weekend Leaders
Cara Lewis and Ava Francis led the Hokies in kills with a total of 17 each. Hanna Borer continues to lead the Hokies in assists with 57 and an average of 7.13 per set last weekend. Defensively, Maddie Slagle recorded 26 digs with an average of 3.25 per set. She also notched her 1,000th career dig in the match against Louisville.
UP NEXT
The Hokies are back at home next weekend. They will take on Virginia in the first of the two Commonwealth Clash games on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Tech then welcomes No. 8 Pitt and will play them on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
