Hokies travel to #2 Louisville and Notre Dame

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech volleyball team is back on the road to take on No. 2 Louisville and Notre Dame. The Hokies will play the Cardinals on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in Louisville, Ky. They will then travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Fighting Irish on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. 
 
THINGS TO KNOW
 
Scouting Louisville
 
Louisville is ranked No. 2 in this week's AVCA poll and at the top of the ACC. The Cardinals have faced seven ranked teams so far this year, with their only loss coming at the hands of then-No. 8 Ohio State (3-1).  Graduate student Claire Chaussee is ranked sixth in the ACC in kills with a total of 201 and an average of 3.72 per set. Amaya Tillman leads the Cardinal block and is ranked first in the ACC and 19th in the country in total blocks with 71 and an average of 1.42 per set. Elena Scott ranks fifth in the ACC for digs with a total of 224 and an average of 4.15 per set.
 
Scouting Notre Dame
 
The Fighting Irish are 7-9 overall and 2-3 in ACC play. Most recently, the Irish took on Syracuse and Boston College, sweeping the Orange and defeating Boston College 3-1. Hattie Monson is ranked third in the ACC for digs with a total of 275 and an average of 4.37 per set. Charity McDowell is ranked tenth in the ACC for blocks with a total of 41 and an average of 1.08 per set to lead the Irish. Phyona Schrader is currently ranked seventh in the ACC in assists with 499 and an average of 7.92 per set.
 
1,000 Club
 
In Friday's game against NC State, Brie Postema achieved a career milestone with 1,000 assists. So far this season, Postema has 153 assists, 61 digs and 11 service aces. 
 
Taking the Court
 
Josie Bloom and Sarah Malinowski both got on the court for the first time this season. Bloom played two sets over the weekend, earning one ace and one dig for the Hokies. Malinowski played six sets, recording five kills, one dig and two blocks.
 
Last Weekend Leaders
 
Last Weekend, Tech hosted NC State and North Carolina in Cassell Coliseum. Hokies that stood out were Cera Powell, Maddie Slagle and Anabel Zier. Powell had 17 kills with an average of 2.13 kills per set. Slagle had 32 digs with an average of 4.00 digs per set. Zier had 10 blocks with an average of 1.25 blocks per set to lead the Hokies.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies continue their road trip next weekend. Tech will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida State on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. They will then travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to take on Miami on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
