Tori Powell named ACC Offensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Tori Powell was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Powell is the second athlete from Virginia Tech to earn a conference honor this season.

Powell scored the game-winning goal against #3 North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 1,  after putting the Hokies ahead of the Tar Heels  in the 85th minute of the match (2-1). Powell chipped the ball over the head of North Carolina's goalkeeper bouncing it into the back of the net for her fifth career game-winning goal.

The Hokies' victory over North Carolina marked the first time Tech has won a match against a top-five opponent since 2013. Saturday's match marked the second time Tech has defeated a top-25 team this season, with a 1-0 victory over #22 NC State on Sept. 22.
