#LOVE: Our Black Community initiative planned for February

In conjunction with Black History Month and in collaboration with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Virginia Tech Athletics is unveiling #LOVE: Our Black Community—an initiative aimed to elevate and celebrate Black voices, culture, and history, and highlight positive, reflective and affirming perceptions of Black love.

The initiative will be a month-long celebration in February as we reflect on the history, contributions, culture and accomplishments of Black Americans who have enriched communities, organizations and entire industries.

Here are some elements to be featured throughout the month:

  • ICAT Projection on Cassell Coliseum

    • An outdoor projection event on the exterior of Cassell Coliseum on the side facing Washington St.
  • #LOVE: Our Black Community t-shirts
    • All student-athletes at Virginia Tech will receive this t-shirt and will be given out as a giveaway at WBB on Feb. 10 and at MBB on Feb. 12.
  • Highlight trailblazers at Virginia Tech and in our local community
  • ACC UNITE Award profiles: Dianne Epps and Jerry Gaines
  • #LOVE messages by Tech student-athletes

The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) projection is set for Feb. 10-12, weather permitting. Selected submissions will be shown on the north facade (facing Washington Street) of Cassell Coliseum the evenings of February 10, 11 and 12—coinciding with three Tech home events:

  • WBB vs. Georgia Tech (2/10 at 8 p.m.)
  • Wrestling vs. North Carolina (2/11 at 7 p.m.)
  • MBB vs. Syracuse (2/12 at 6 p.m.)

Return to hokiesports.com throughout the month as we highlight the accomplishments and contributions of Virginia Tech's Black community.
