BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's soccer team is set to host No. 4 South Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 8 when the Hokies take on the Gamecocks in a non-conference match at 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Field. Thursday's match against South Carolina will air live on ACC Network Extra.

• Hokies have Great Depth (5-0-1): The Hokies recorded their fourth clean sheet of the season on Sunday, as midfield Emmalee McCarter filled in as goalkeeper saving five shots. Tori Powell (2) and Ella Valente (1) scored three goals in the match, defeating Charlotte 3-0. Eight players have scored this season for the Hokies, with Tori Powell leading the way with five goals.
• Gamecocks Defense is Strong, but not Unstoppable (4-0-2): South Carolina is ranked #17 in the NCAA with a goals against average of .333, allowing only two goals this season. Goalkeeper Heather Hinz has 26 saves this season, allowing only two balls to get past her and into the net, both against Clemson. Florida State held the Gamecocks down to a scoreless match in the season opener. The Gamecocks have recorded five shutout of the season, having most recently defeated Furman 3-0.
• Battle in the Second: Both teams have shown greater offensive strength in the second half, scoring over half their goals this season in the final 45 minutes. Nine of 12 goals for the Gamecocks have been scored in the second half. Tech's scoring offense is ranked 23rd in the NCAA averaging 2.4 goals per match. The Hokies have scored 17 goals so far this season, its most through six games since 2014.
• Last Minute Goals: The Hokies fought until the last minute of the match against Elon as Ella Ciardullo scored her first goal of the season in the 84th minute. Tori Powell and Emma Pelkowski both scored goals against William and Mary in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Hokies have won two games this season in the final 45 minutes. The Gamecocks scored their third goal of the match against Furman in the 84th minute as Shae O'Rourke closed out the game 3-0.
• Leaders in the ACC: Tori Powell scored her 20th career goal in the game against Charlotte, as she took back the lead on the team with five goals. Powell is ranked tied for eighth this season in the NCAA, and tied for third in the ACC. Freshman Taylor Price is following closely behind with four goals this season, leading the ACC freshmen class. She has scored the first goal of the game three times this season, helping the Hokies claim victory in all three occasions. Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove has claimed three clean sheets this season and is tied for fourth in the ACC with a saving percentage of .929. With 22 shots this season, freshman Natalie Mitchell is seventh in the ACC.
Best of the 90s: Thursday's match against South Carolina is Throwback to the 90s' at Thompson Field. The first 50 fans into the game will receive a free Virginia Tech fanny pack.

Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 1 (Coliseum West Lot) near Lane Stadium and Thompson Field, or Lot 2 (Stadium Lot) near Lane Stadium.
