BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's Tori Powell recorded a brace in the Hokies' 3-0 shutout victory against Charlotte on Sunday at Thompson Field.
Tech improved to 5-0-1 overall with the win and posted its second straight clean sheet of the season. Powell recorded her second multi-goal game of the season and now has five for her junior campaign. The 49ers dropped to 0-4-1 overall.
How it Happened
Virginia Tech grabbed a 1-0 lead when Powell notched her fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute, assisted by Aino Vuorinen who placed a perfectly weighted ball through the Charlotte backline.
The Hokies scored again on a goal from Ella Valente – her first goal of the season – in the 82nd minute.
Virginia Tech made it a 3-0 advantage on Powell's 86th-minute goal, her fifth of the season. Powell's brace produced the Hokies' fourth match of the season where they scored at least three goals.

- Emmalee McCarter recorded five saves for the Hokies out of eight total 49ers shots.
