BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's soccer team travels back to Blacksburg to take on #3 North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's match against North Carolina will air live on ACC Network Extra. Virginia Tech trails the series against North Carolina with a 2-7 at home record.

• Two game Shutout in the ACC (8-2-1, 2-1): Virginia Tech upset the #22 NC State Wolfpack last Thursday in Raleigh with a 1-0 victory. Taylor Price banked the game-winning shot versus the Wolfpack with an assist from Natalie Mitchell in the 62nd minute. Lauren Hargrove blocked the Wolfpacks' single shot on goal to record her fourth clean sheet of the season. Tech then went on to Winston-Salem to win against Wake Forest (2-0). Sophie Maltese scored the first goal of the game sending the Hokies into halftime 1-0. In the 65th minutes, Taylor Bryan scored her first goal of the season drilling the ball to the high right corner to closeout the game 2-0. The Hokies kept the Demon Deacons down to two shots on goal.
• No. 3 Tar Heels (9-2, 2-1): North Carolina defeated Boston College on Sunday in 3-0 shutout at home. The Tar Heels lead scorer, Avery Patterson made her seventh goal of the season versus the Eagles. North Carolina's defenders kept Boston down to four shots throughout the entire match (17-4). Versus Syracuse, the Tar Heels made 19 shots, with one making into the back of the net by Tori Dellaperuta to win the game. Syracuse stopped North Carolina from scoring in the final 58 minutes of the match.
•Keep Your Eyes On: Victoria Haugen was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Haugen was a key part of the Hokies success in both shutout victory matches playing the full 90 minutes in each. UNC's Sam Meza has also been recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week this season helping her team defeat Duke 3-0. Taylor Price scored her sixth goal of the season in a conference game against NC State. Price has scored the first Hokie goal four times this season in the last 11 games, each leading to a Virginia Tech win. Price is ranked tied for fifth in the ACC for goals this season, right behind Patterson tied for third from UNC. Natalie Mitchell continues to lead the Hokies in shots with 41 in 11 games, tied for fifth in the ACC. Mitchell is also tied for second in the ACC with six assists. Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove has recorded five clean sheets with 30 saves. Hargrove is tied for second in the conference with five shutouts.
• Shots: Virginia Tech has taken 205 shots this season while holding opponents down to 90 shots. North Carolina is closely match with 203 shots keeping opponents down to 76. The Hokies average 18.6 shots per game, compared to the Tar Heels averaging 18.5.
TAKE A BREAK: Saturday's match is mental health awareness day at Thompson Field. Our student-athletes will be wearing green ribbons to show their support, fans can stop by the marketing table to pick up information about mental health and share some inspiration words. Faculty and Staff are also encouraged to take a break and make their way out to the pitch to enjoy a night of women's soccer.
