BLACKSBURG – The undefeated Virginia Tech women's soccer team is set to host Charlotte on Sunday, Sept. 4 when the Hokies take on the 49ers in a non-conference match at 5:00 p.m. at Thompson Field. Sunday's match against Charlotte will air live on ACC Network Extra.

• Hokies Holding Strong (4-0-1): Virginia Tech continues to prevail over their non-conference competitors having most recently taken down Old Dominion 3-0 at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Hokies logged their third clean sheet of the season as Lauren Hargrove blocked a career-high five shots. The Hokies will take on the 49ers for the eighth time in program history, having last defeated Charlotte in 2021 by a score of 2-1. Tech is tied in the series against Charlotte 3-3-1. Charlotte was picked to finish eighth in the Conference USA preseason poll.
• Rocky Start for Charlotte (0-3-1): The 49ers have been scoreless in their past two games versus Duke and James Madison. Charlotte had zero shots on goal against Duke, losing the match 4-0. The 49ers' goalkeeper Emily Jones has recorded 22 saves in 315 minutes of play. Midfielder Tash Hudson is eighth in the C-USA for goals – she leads the 49ers with two goals in three games. In 2021, Hudson led her team with eight goals and 19 points while playing at Barry.
• Not Just a Second Half Team: While the Hokies have continued to put pressure on their opponents in the second half, the Hokies scored their first goal against Old Dominion in the 22nd minute of the match. Tech scored two goals against Elon in the first half, followed by three additional goals in the second. The Hokies fought until the last minute of the match as Ella Ciardullo scored her first goal of the season in the 84th minute against Elon. Tori Powell and Emma Pelkowski both scored goals against William and Mary in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Hokies are currently averaging 18.4 shots per game with over half of all shots taken in the second half. The Hokies have won two games this season in the final 45 minutes.
• Leaders in the ACC: Freshman Taylor Price has quickly become a leader on the team, scoring her fourth goal of the season at Old Dominion. Price is ranked first in the ACC among freshmen, and tied for fifth among all ACC student-athletes in goals. She is also tied for eighth in total shots (19), and fifth for points (9) amongst the ACC. Price has scored the first goal of the game three times this season, helping the Hokies claim victory in all three occassions. Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove clocked in 300 minutes before a ball made its way past her and into the net. Hargrove has claimed three clean sheets this season and is tied for second in the ACC with a saving percentage of .929.
Sunday's match against Charlotte is Sunday Funday at Thompson Field. Fans can enjoy lawn games, ice cream, and face painting before the game. Fans may also pick up the official 2022 women's soccer poster (while supplies last).
