WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Virginia Tech remains undefeated on the road this season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Spry Stadium.
Virginia Tech improves to an 8-2-1 overall record and 2-1-0 in ACC action after the victory.
How it Happened
Virginia Tech (8-2-1, 2-1 ACC) broke the scoreless tie when Sophie Maltese notched her fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute, assisted by Lauren Gogal. Maltese headed the ball into the net with a cross field pass from Gogal. The Hokies held the Demon Deacons (7-2-2, 1-2 ACC) down to two shots in the first half, leaving them scoreless.
The Hokies added a second goal when Taylor Bryan kicked in her first goal of the season in the top right corner of the net in the 65th minute, assisted by Allie George. Tech recorded their sixth clean sheet of the season with two impressive saves by goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove.
"Really pleased with the team's effort tonight," said head coach Chugger Adair. "I thought we fought hard to get the results in a difficult match, and I was pleased with the team's effort to move the ball. I'm really pleased with the six points we have gained from this two game road trip, and look forward to the recovery as we prepare for the next game."
