Tech suffers 1-0 defeat at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Virginia Tech dropped its third ACC match of the season on Friday evening, as the Hokies fell, 1-0, to NC State. The result marked Tech's fourth 1-0 defeat of the season.

The Wolfpack struck in the 31st minute with a header from Luke Hille that was delivered by Conor Kelly from a free kick.

Tech headed into the break without a shot, while NC State had four, although only the goal was on target.

Virginia Tech settled into the game in the second half and looked like the more dangerous side as the period went on. The best opportunity of the evening came in the 65th minute when Mayola Kinyua laid off a ball to the penalty spot from the left side of the box. Declan Quill and Danny Flores both made contact, but both attempts rattled into a Wolfpack defender.

More opportunities presented themselves as the match came to a close, but Tech failed to capitalize. In the 90th minute, there was a scramble inside the NC State box that made contact with several defenders. A contingent of Tech players appealed for a handball, but no decision was given and the clock expired.

The Hokies will return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Davidson.
