Conner earns No. 25 versus West Virginia

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football's Chamarri Conner will don the No. 25 jersey on Thursday against West Virginia, after he was told in a team meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Conner will now wear the iconic number for the fourth time of his career, placing him second on the all-time list for recipients (5x, Divine Deablo).

"No. 25 means a lot to me," Conner said. "You know, being at Virginia Tech and this being a big special teams school, it's a great honor to be able to wear No. 25 and be recognized for making plays on special teams. I'm looking forward to putting on the No. 25 jersey against West Virginia."

Connor is off to a terrific start this season, racking up 19 tackles (10 solo) through three games and is coming off of a six-tackle performance versus Wofford. In the second half against the Terriers, the 6-foot, 206-pound defensive back pummeled a punt returner that was arguably the hit of the season so far.

Tech retired Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey in 2002, and since the start of the 2016 season, the Hokies have been paying homage to Tech's legacy of excellence on special teams by selecting a different special teams athlete each week to wear the honorary Beamer 25 jersey. For more information on who has worn it in the past.
