BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's cross country team finished second at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16, with a score of 44 points. Antonio Lopez Segura crossed the line second for the men's team leading the team to a third place finish with 50 points.
Cheyenne Leatham crossed the line first for the Hokies with a time of 21:34.4 in the women's 6k, finishing fifth overall. Following closely behind in sixth was Ava Hassebrock clocking in a time of 21:38.4. The top-five Hokies all scored within the top-15 leading them to a second place finish behind Liberty with 30 points. Lindsey Butler finished eighth (21:54.2), followed by Grace Boone in 11th (22:00.6), and Sarah Leach in 14th (22:21.9).
The top five Hokie men finished within the top-20 to claim third with 50 points. Antonio Lopez Segura led the team scoring second with a time of 24.34.9. Arnav Tikhe scored sixth stopping the clock at 25:11.6, followed by Viktor Idhammar scoring ninth (25:18.0), and David Kennedy scoring 14th with a time of 25:27.8. Rounding out the team's score, David Whitfield crossed the finished line with a time of 25:45.5, scoring 19th. Liberty won the men's 8k with 30 points, and East Tennessee State finished second with 48 points.
The Hokies will next travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Oct. 15, competing at the Panorama Farms XC 23 Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
