NFL Hokies: Week 2 Primer

With Week 1 in the NFL officially in the books and a lot to look forward to with Week 2 on the horizon, there's a bunch to take a glance at regarding what former Virginia Tech football players are up to at the professional level. With plenty of maroon and orange scattered across the league, there continues to be opportunity after opportunity to see a multitude of Hokies perform on Sunday's in the fall.

What's on-tap for Week 2? For a full rundown, read Wednesday's edition of NFL Hokies, presented by Coca-Cola.
 Notable Week 1 Performances

RB Khalil Herbert
Chicago second-year running back Khalil "Juice" Herbert is already off to a solid start in what could be a special 2022 campaign. The 2021 sixth-round draft pick rushed for 45 yards on nine carries with a touchdown in the Bears' season opening win over San Francisco, becoming the first Hokie to reach the end zone in 2022.

Herbert and company will continue their quest to surprise many in the NFC North this upcoming weekend, traveling to Green Bay to face off against Yosh Nijman and the Packers for an 8:25 p.m. ET kick. The game will be televised on NBC in this week's edition of Sunday Night Football.

LB Tremaine Edmunds
It should be no surprise that star linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is off to a strong start in his fifth season suiting up for the Buffalo Bills. The already two-time Pro Bowler recorded 10 total tackles, with seven coming on his own in the team's statement 31-10 victory out west over the Los Angeles Rams to kick off the NFL regular season.

Projected to be one of the best to do it in the NFL in 2022, the Danville, Virginia native has already proved why he's been slated in that coveted category. And with Edmunds, Tim Settle and the Bills hosting Caleb Farley and Tennessee for a 7:15 p.m. kick Monday that can be found on ABC, it'll be another tough test for the former first-round pick to showcase his abilities at the highest level.

S Chuck Clark
A continued staple in the middle of Baltimore's secondary, safety Chuck Clark has already made a big impact on the Ravens defensively to start off the season. In a 24-9 over the Jets this past weekend, Clark totaled nine total tackles – five on his own – and a forced fumble to lead the purple and black to a feel-good victory against an AFC foe.

Up next for both himself and cornerback Kyle Fuller, a Sunday date alongside with the Dolphins in the Charm City will take place at 1 p.m. and will be televised on CBS.

More Week 2 Matchups

Sunday, Sept. 18

N.Y. Jets at Cleveland - 1 p.m. - CBS
15-year veteran Duane Brown (Injured Reserve) and the New York Jets will make the trip to Cleveland to face off against Wyatt Teller and the Browns in a would-be matchup of two former Tech offensive linemen who have both seen quite the success at the professional level.

Teller, a 6-foot-4, 315-pounder out of Manassas, Virginia, contributed heavily by playing each and every snap in a narrow 26-24 win over Carolina this past weekend in Charlotte. While Brown, who was recently placed on IR, seeks to make his Jets debut upon returning from a shoulder injury in the next few weeks.

Washington at Detroit - 1 p.m. - FOX
The Motor City will certainly have their fair share of Hokies to feature on the gridiron on Sunday afternoon inside Ford Field. And the majority will be coming from the visitors.

Fresh off a 28-22 win over Jacksonville this past Sunday, Washington comes into Detroit having already gotten contributions from tight end Logan Thomas, cornerback Kendall Fuller and placekicker Joey Slye.

Thomas, a former quarterback during his time suiting up for the maroon and orange, hauled in three receptions for 45 yards in the victory. While Fuller tallied three total tackles, and Slye booted through both of his extra point opportunities in the Commanders' season-opening win.

Rookie tight end James Mitchell is still seeking his first career professional reception as a member of the Lions. A fifth-round draft pick in this past year's NFL Draft, Mitchell serves as a nice depth piece for a Detroit team that's attempting to surprise many in 2022.

Carolina at N.Y. Giants - 1 p.m. - FOX
Amarè Barno and the Carolina Panthers hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Tyrod Taylor and the New York Giants.

Much like his college teammate Mitchell, Barno still eyes to make his professional debut this upcoming weekend. And will continue to fight to do so after a successful three-year career with the Hokies from 2019-21.

New England at Pittsburgh - 1 p.m. - CBS
The Steelers and safety Terrell Edmunds look to continue their winning ways after a thrilling 23-20 overtime win over Cincinnati last Sunday.

The former first-rounder back in 2018 garnered five total tackles, with four coming on his own, and will look to continue to be a major contributor when the black and gold host New England this Sunday at Acrisure Stadium for the team's 2022 home opener.

Indianapolis at Jacksonville - 1 p.m. - CBS
Cornerback Brandon Facyson made some noise in his debut as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

The former Los Angeles Charger and Las Vegas Raider totaled three total tackles in an eventual tie with the Houston Texans, and will look to continue to show off his capabilities in the secondary when both him, Luke Tenuta and the rest of the Colts travel down to Jacksonville to face off against the Jaguars.

Arizona at Las Vegas - 4:25 p.m. - CBS
Former Tech safety Divine Deablo had a fantastic debut to his 2022 season in his second go-around in the linebacking corp for the Raiders out in Las Vegas.

The 2021 third-round pick racked up seven total tackles in a slim 24-19 loss to the Chargers last Sunday evening. And if the former first-team All-ACC member during his time in Blacksburg continues to produce at this type of level, Deablo will certainly be a forced to be reckoned with all season long in the AFC West.

He won't be the only Hokie represented in this one. Offensive tackle Lecitus Smith made his NFL debut this past Sunday in Arizona's 44-21 loss to Kansas City, and will look to contribute once again when the Cardinals make the trip to Vegas to face off against the Raiders.

Monday, Sept. 19

Minnesota at Philadelphia - 8:30 p.m. - ABC
Star offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw and the Minnesota Vikings venture out to Philadelphia to face off against the Eagles in the second of two Monday Night Football matchups.

The former first-round selection back in 2021 played in all but one snap a week ago in the Vikings' 23-7 resounding victory over Green Bay, and will look to continue to shine up front all year long for a team that has high hopes in the NFC North.
