BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech welcomes Northern Colorado for the first time to Thompson Field on Sunday, Sept. 11 when the Hokies take on the Bears in the last non-conference match of the season at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's match against Northern Colorado will air live on ACC Network Extra.

• Bounce Back (5-1-1): Virginia Tech looks to get things back on track after facing their first loss of the season versus South Carolina (1-2). The Hokies proved evenly match against the Gamecocks with a shot advantage of 12-11. Both teams had six shots on goals, with the Gamecocks twice finding their way past goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove. Hargrove remains a top-10 goalkeeper in the ACC with a saving percentage of .850.
• Scouting Northern Colorado (4-1-2): The Bears are coming off a 1-2 loss versus James Madison on Thursday, their first loss of the season. While the Bears have allowed opponents to dominate the shots in the first half, the team has scored almost evenly (7-8) in both halves. The Bears have strongly depended on their goalkeeper, Kaya Lindberg, for the win with 36 saves this season. Forward Lauren Woodhull leads the team with four goals this season, closely behind her is Melina Faris who has recorded the Bears only goal versus James Madison in the final 30 seconds. Northern Colorado was picked to finish first in the Big Sky conference.
• The Second Half, Friend or Foe: The Hokies have been able to defeat their opponents in the second half, but were bested by the Gamecocks with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second. Earlier in the week, the Hokies defeated Charlotte with three goals in the second half, including a goal by Ella Valente (82:25) and a second goal by Tori Powell (86:22). Tech held a shot advantage of 20-8 over the 49ers but were matched in shots on goal (5). The Hokies have taken 124 shots this season with 59 on goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove remains tied for third in the ACC with three shutouts and is seventh in saves (17).
• Hometown Heroes: Sunday's match against Northern Colorado is Hometown Heroes Day at Thompson Field. First Responders, healthcare workers, teachers, and family members are welcome to the game. Fans may also pick up the official 2022 women's soccer poster (while supplies last).
