BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams will begin their 2022 season by hosting the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., Friday, Sept. 2. The women's 4k will start at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's 6k at 6:30 p.m. Live Results
Senior Antonio Lopez Segura leads the men's team back to the course after finishing 15th at the 2021 NCAA Southeast Region Championships with a 10k personal-best time of 29:48.3. Returning with Segura will be Ethan Mills and Dave Whitfield. Mills and Whitfield finished within the top 100 at the Regional Championships resulting in a 10th place finish for the men's team.
For the women's team, Ava Hassebrock returns after finishing 36th at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships clocking in a personal-best time of 21:14.9 in the 6k. Chase Kappeler and Hannah Ballowe will also be competing in Blacksburg on Friday alongside Hassebrock. Kappeler scored 60th at the Southeast Region Championships crossing the line with a personal-best time of 21:44.1, Ballowe scored 63rd (21:44.8)
Both teams will compete in three meets this year during the regular season, followed by the ACC Championships, and NCAA Southeast Regional.
