Tech baseball to hold walk-on tryout on Friday, Sept. 2

UPDATE (Aug. 16, 2022):  Virginia Tech baseball's walk-on tryout is now scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (previously 5 p.m.). The times referenced in this release have been changed accordingly to reflect this information.

BLACKSBURG – Coming off one of its most historic seasons all-time, the Virginia Tech baseball team announced on Monday that the program will be hosting a walk-on tryout on Friday, Sept. 2, at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park, beginning at 1 p.m.
 
Any and all Tech students who are interested in competing for a 2023 roster spot must attend and must first be medically cleared to participate by Kyle Staggers, director of sports medicine for baseball. To be medically cleared, all participants must complete and/or submit the following mandatory information to Staggers via email (kyleas8@vt.edu) before Wednesday, Aug. 31:

Students are also asked to email Staggers to set up an appointment to discuss all aspects of their medical clearance.

Participants who have been cleared to compete should expect a full baseball workout and should bring all necessary equipment – including, but not limited to, cleats, glove, bat and helmet – and should be dressed in baseball pants and a hat. Questions regarding the walk-on tryout may be directed to Corey Haines, director of baseball operations, via email (haines@vt.edu).

During the 2022 season, Virginia Tech (45-14, 19-9 ACC) finished with the best regular season record in the ACC, championing the Coastal Division for the first time. The Hokies earned the No. 4 national seed in the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, winning the Blacksburg Regional at English Field en route to appearing in (and hosting) its first Super Regional.
