Hokies add Francis to staff

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's tennis coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Holdren is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Francis as an assistant coach.
 
The Hampshire, England native arrives in Blacksburg with over 14 years of experience competing and coaching in both collegiate and professional tennis. Most recently, Francis served as an assistant coach for Arizona women's tennis and compiled a 16-11 record with the Wildcats last spring.
 
Prior to his time in Tucson, Francis served as an assistant for Georgia State during the fall campaign. For the 2020-2021 season, Francis joined the Georgia Gwinnett College as an assistant coach for both men's and women's, where he won a NAIA National Championship with both squads.
 
From 2016-19, Francis was a Professional Tennis Coach for SportimeNY in New York, where he coached and trained top international junior tennis players. From 2013-16 he was a traveling partner and coach/trainer for Coco Vandeweghe, a world top-10 female tennis player.
 
During his professional career, Francis became a top-10 junior in the United Kingdom while being in the top 200 of the ITF junior rankings.
 
Francis graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2012 with a degree in Business Administration. During his time there, he earned numerous awards and recognitions for tennis, including National Player of The Week, ITA First Team All-American, Rookie of the Year and team captain.
