BLACKSBURG – Following its second practice of fall camp on Wednesday, Virginia Tech football met with the media for a press conference. Read below for what head coach Brent Pry and defensive back Chamarri Conner had to say.
Head coach Brent Pry
On the coaching staff being energetic and the players following suit:
"I do think player-led teams are the ones that have the best chance to go the long-haul, but the energy and enthusiasm starts with us. If we come out there flat, it's hard to expect them to bring it. That's just kind of who we are as coaches. That was important to me in the hiring process – guys that could bring the juice."
On the retention he's seen from what was left off from the end of spring ball to the start of fall camp:
"I think we've made strides there, particularly on offense. I was very pleased yesterday with the operation, the grasp. I thought the quarterbacks threw the ball really well yesterday and knew where things we're going to be. Even today, when you get some tempo going during the team period, that's when the defense has to operate with composure and the offense, too. That's when the bullets are really flying. So, we'll know more about that tomorrow."

Defensive back Chamarri Conner
On being one of the older guys and if he feels responsible to ratchet up the competitiveness within the team:
"For sure. I feel very responsible. I have to be the one to make sure everyone is on the same page and go out there and be intentional."
On being back with his teammates at fall camp:
"It's great to be back out here on the grass with the guys. It feels great to be back running around here and competing. This is why I love football. So, it feels so good to be back out here."
ACC Network will be on campus the next two days, with the Hokies being live on the channel Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
