1. At what age did you begin playing volleyball and what do you love most about playing?

MS: I started playing volleyball around the age of 10. I fell in love with the sport because of all the incredible teammates I was able to meet and play with throughout my years. My coaches also made it enjoyable while pushing me to be better.

2. Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

MS: I chose Virginia Tech because of the amazing college campus and overall area. All of the coaches and players were very welcoming when I was on my visit and it started to feel like home.

3. What are you most excited for as you head into your first season as a Hokie?

MS: I'm most excited to compete in the ACC and see different teams and what they have to bring.

4. What position do you play and how did you begin playing that position?

MS: I am an outside hitter/defensive specialist. I started playing outside hitter ever since I started the game of volleyball. Once I got to college, I started doing a little of both. I believe my experience as an outside hitter all my life has put me in a better position to excel as a DS.

5. What is your major and why did you choose it?

MS: My major is Applied Nutrition & Physical Activity. I chose this major because I enjoy the aspects of eating clean while sustaining a healthy lifestyle. I hope to help others in the future overcome their nutritional or physical activity concerns.

6. Describe yourself in three words

MS: Hard-working, dependable and generous.

7. What is your favorite place to eat in Blacksburg so far?

MS: My favorite place to eat is Roots Natural Kitchen because it's so good and fresh. As a pescatarian, I believe they have excellent choices that provide great nutrients to my body.

8. What does it mean to you to be a Hokie?

MS: To be a Hokie means putting in dedication and hard work to accomplish aspects of life outside of volleyball. It means radiating confidence in others through yourself to enhance the player bond, relationships, and motivation to perform at your best.
