GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech men's tennis player Ryan Fishback has been to the All-ACC second team, as announced by the league on June 9. The sophomore experienced a breakout season for Tech this past spring, claiming the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles for the Hokies.
A two-time NCAA doubles championship qualifier with Jordan Chrysostom, Fishback featured twice in the ACC Doubles Team of the Week this season. Along with Chrysostom, the Geneva, N.Y. native went 5-2 against ranked opponents, including a win against the fourth-ranked team of Cernoch/Kiger from North Carolina. At their peak, Chrysostom and Fishback were ranked No. 9 in the ITA doubles rankings.
In singles, Fishback made the jump in his sophomore season to Court 1 after featuring primarily on Courts 5 and 6 in his rookie campaign. He finished this season with three ranked wins, including a triumph over No. 26 George Harwell of Vanderbilt. Fishback climbed as high as No. 68 in the ITA singles rankings.
Along with his success on the court, Fishback was recognized for his accomplishments in the classroom this season, as well. In May, he received the NCAA's Elite 90 award for DI men's tennis. The award honors the student-athlete in each NCAA championship field with the highest GPA.
