GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six Virginia Tech softball players were named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Softball Team, the conference announced Friday afternoon.
Kelsey Brown, Mackenzie Lawter, Emma Lemley, Morgan Overaitis, Meredith Slaw and Darby Trull got it done on the field and in the classroom this semester. All six were named to one of the All-ACC teams after the regular season and met the academic requirements of a 3.0 GPA.
An outfielder from Haymarket, Va., Brown appeared in 52 games for the Hokies, recording 35 hits and scoring 21 runs. She was name to the All-ACC Third Team and this is the second straight season the outfielder has been named to the All-Academic team. On the base paths, Brown stole 13 bases during the 2022 season.
Lawter started every game but one behind the plate for the Hokies, finishing the year with nine home runs and a .504 slugging percentage. She was clutch in the Blacksburg Regional for Tech, hitting the game-winning home runs in an elimination game against Miami (OH) and to clinch game seven against Kentucky. Lawter was a Second Team All-ACC member and named to the Second Team NFCA All-Region Team.
After a decorated rookie season, Lemley earns a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team. The right-handed pitcher was named a Top-3 Finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA Freshman of the Year, the ACC Freshman of the Year, as well as First Team All-ACC, a member of the All-Freshman Team and NFCA First Team All-Region. She finished the regular season with a 15-4 record and a 6-2 mark in ACC play with two saves.
Appearing in 46 games for the Hokies, Overaitis finished the season with a .341 batting average with four home runs, two triples and six doubles. She posted a 1.048 OPS, one of the best on the team, and also had 20 RBI. Overaitis also earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
Slaw led the Hokies with 41 RBI on the season, hitting .353 over 46 games played. She finished the 2022 season with nine home runs, as well as a .621 slugging percentage. In the Florida State series, Slaw went 7-for-10, hitting three home runs with seven RBI. She was also named All-ACC First Team and First Team NFCA All-Region.
A mainstay in the Tech outfield, Trull played in 51 games for the Hokies in center field. She finished the year with a .319 batting average and a .438 on base percentage. Trull recorded seven doubles, two triples and two home runs, along with a .466 slugging percentage. She was named Third Team All-ACC and Third Team NFCA All-Region.
