BLACKSBURG — Daniel Azallion and Connor Burgess of the Virginia Tech men's golf team have earned a spot on the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Leading the way was three-time honoree Burgess, an entrepreneurship, innovation and technology management major. Burgess competed in 11 events, registering a 71.58 scoring average.
The fifth-year senior finished in the red 14 times. Burgess notched 22 rounds of par-or-better, with six of those being in the 60s.
A junior finance major, Azallion recorded a 71.53 scoring average, which was second-best on the team. Azallion charted five top-20 showings, including a 6-under 210 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate to tie for fourth. He competed in 10 events, posting 18 rounds of par-or-better.
For the second consecutive year Clemson's Jacob Bridgeman was the ACC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Duke, Florida State and Wake Forest led all programs with three golfers on the academic team.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
