Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – Regional champion for the first time during its program history, the No. 4 nationally-seeded Virginia Tech baseball team will pursue its first College World Series berth in Omaha this weekend when Tech hosts [No. 9] Oklahoma during the best-of-three 2022 NCAA Blacksburg Super Regional at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park (June 10-12).
Friday's Super Regional opener between the Hokies and the Sooners will air live on ESPN2 while Saturday's Game 2 will air live on ESPNU (Sunday's if-necessary broadcast window has yet to be revealed). Fans may also tune into WRAD-FM 101.7 to listen to this weekend's Super Regional games as called by the play-by-play voice of Tech baseball, Evan Hughes.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
• Super Matchup: Top-seeded Virginia Tech took names during its undefeated weekend in the NCAA Blacksburg Regional, avoiding second-seeded [No. 14] Gonzaga while rattling off three wins against fourth-seeded Wright State and third-seeded Columbia (twice). The Hokies combined to outscore their regional opponents by the 46-15 margin (+31), flexing a historic 14-run inning during Saturday's semifinal game against the Lions that set the program's ACC-era, single-inning scoring record. Tech's elite offense continues to rake against the nation's best competition. Entering the second weekend of the 2022 NCAA tournament, the "Hammerin' Hokies" crack the top 15 in eight national categories, including slugging percentage (.578 – second), home runs per game (2.11 – fourth), doubles per game (2.46 – fifth), home runs (118 – sixth) and batting average (.313 – ninth). Tech's scoring average jumped back into the top 10 following regional weekend (8.8 runs per game) – more than a run higher than its Super Regional challenger, Oklahoma (7.7). The Sooners arrive in Blacksburg having racked up the fourth highest stolen base count among NCAA Division I programs (140) and are patient at the plate, having drawn 341 walks – the sixth best mark in the land. Tech's pitching staff will need to limit free bases, pulling into this weekend with a top-30 ERA (4.21) and a top-60 walks allowed per nine innings mark (3.75).
• Super Shortstops: This weekend's Blacksburg Super Regional features two of the best shortstops in college baseball as Virginia Tech's Tanner Schobel squares off at this position against Oklahoma's Peyton Graham. Schobel and Graham are both finalists for the 2022 Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually to the nation's best collegiate shortstop. At Tech, Schobel has feasted from the third spot in its lineup, batting .374 this season while leading the Hokies in slugging percentage (.707), home runs (18) and RBIs (73). Defensively, there are few balls the sophomore from Williamsburg, Virginia, cannot track down, lying 159 assists in addition to turning 33 double plays. As Schobel has been to Tech, so has Graham been to the Sooners. Through 59 appearances and 58 starts, Graham is batting .339, slugging .661 and has swiped 32 bases on 34 chances. The third-year shortstop is as effective at the plate, hitting 14 doubles and 19 home runs while totaling 70 runs and 68 RBIs. Both student-athletes are bound to make big plays for their side during Super Regional weekend.
• Super History: Virginia Tech has history with Oklahoma as the teams collide for the third time within a 10-year stretch. During the 2013 Blacksburg Regional, the Hokies season came to an end at the hands of the Sooners, who bumped top-seeded Tech from the regional final, 10-4, to advance out of English Field. Five years later in 2018, the Hokies met Oklahoma again during an early-season tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina – this time prevailing, 14-6, to earn head coach John Szefc his first victory at Tech. Only two members of the Hokies' 2022 roster were on Szfec's 2018 team that defeated the Sooners in Myrtle Beach: fifth-years Ryan Metz and Ryan Okuda. Both Tech hurlers pitched late that day against Oklahoma, each picking up four outs in relief as the Sooners' defense committed six errors to spur Tech to victory.
