BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 2 Virginia Tech Hokies play their final regular season game on Tuesday in Blacksburg. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. on ACC Network.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies finished out the ACC regular season with a 21-2 record with a sweep of Boston College, the highest conference winning percentage in school history. Keely Rochard went 2-0 on the weekend, striking out 27 Eagles in her 13.0 innings pitched. Emma Lemley received the win in game three, throwing a three-hit shutout over 6.0 innings of work. Morgan Overaitis and Emma Ritter led the Hokies offensively, both hitting over .500 on the weekend. Ritter posted a triple and a home run with four RBI. Overaitis also added a home run and three RBI.
REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS
The Hokies clinched their second ACC Regular Season Championship on Saturday, run-ruling Boston College 9-0 to officially clinch the championship. Tech last won the regular season in 2019, finishing 20-4 in the Coastal Division. The Hokies clinched the 2019 title at Boston College as well with a sweep of the Eagles. The 21-2 record in ACC play is the highest winning percentage in conference play in school history.
HOKIE BATS
The Hokies hit .310 over the weekend in the three-game series, compared to a .197 average from the Eagles. Tech posted four home runs, as well as six doubles and a triple and ended the weekend with a .540 slugging percentage. Three Hokies hit .500 or above with Morgan Overaitis leading the way at .571. Emma Ritter and Meredith Slaw both hit .500 on the weekend as well.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
The Hokies defeated Liberty on April 12 earlier this season, taking the 8-1 victory. Sophomore Cameron Fagan led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 4-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Junior Kelsey Bennett put together a solid day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Senior Mackenzie Lawter also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Virginia Tech with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Emma Lemley received the win, striking out 10. Keely Rochard came on in the sixth, earning her fourth save of the season.
UP NEXT
Following the game with Liberty, the Hokies will set their sights on the ACC Tournament which will begin on May 11. The final weekend of the ACC regular season ends on May 8 with ACC Tournament seeding to follow.
