BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech's Emily Mahar will be in familiar territory when she returns to Grayhawk Golf Club, site of the 2022 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mahar, once an Arizona resident, competed in the national championship last season and played her prep career at nearby Xavier College Prep in Phoenix.

The 2022 edition of the national championship get underway Friday, May 20. Mahar will be competing as an individual – one of 12 who advanced out of regionals. The graduate student fired a 1-under 212 (72-71-69) to finish runner-up at the Ann Arbor Regional last week in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mahar carded an 8-over 224 (74-73-77) last season at Grayhawk.

Mahar tees off at 1:20 p.m. PT off the first hole with Iowa State's Taglao Jeeravivitaporn and Old Dominion's Jana Melichova.

The championship format in Scottsdale will include 24 teams and 12 individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play, and then the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team competing for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the team national championship to be decided May 25.

Live results from the championship can be found online through Golfstat.
