BRIGHTON, Mass. – The No. 2 Virginia Tech Hokies completed the sweep of Boston College on Sunday with an 8-4 win over the Eagles. With the win, the Hokies finish 21-2 in conference play, the best winning percentage in school history.
Senior Keely Rochard got the start on Sunday, punching out 12 Boston College hitters over six innings of work to help lead the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Eagles 8-4.
In addition to her 12 strikeouts, Rochard (22-2) threw six innings, giving up four runs, aon seven hits and walking one for Virginia Tech (39-6, 21-2). Sophomore Ivy Rosenberry also made an impact in the circle for the Hokies, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Hokies were paced by junior Morgan Overaitis, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Emma Ritter put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Jayme Bailey also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. The Hokies put up five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Overaitis.
The Hokies then held the Eagles scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. which brought the Hokies lead to 8-0. Boston College put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Virginia Tech closed out the game for its 39th win of the season.
