Tech outdone by No. 3 NC State

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech fell to No. 3 NC State, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Despite the result, freshman Charlotte Cartledge picked up a fifth-straight win in ACC play on Court 6 in a three-set match.
 
Annie Clark and Katie Andreini were amid a battle with the eight-ranked doubles team on Court 1, only trailing 3-4, when the Wolfpack clinched the doubles point on Court 2 and Court 3.
 
In singles, NC State picked up wins its three ranked singles players on Court 1, Court 2 and Court 3 to clinch the match. The Hokies continued to fight in the back half of their lineup. Erika Cheng and Semra Aksu pushed their matches to third set 10-point tiebreakers but were unable to close out wins.
 
Cartledge rebounded from a slow first set to win her second set 6-3. In the third set, the freshman closed out with a 6-4 result to pick up another ACC win.
 
The Hokies will be back on court on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against No. 27 Wake Forest. Virginia Tech will recognize seniors at the match and students can enter a raffle to win a JBL speaker as part of Student Appreciation Day.
