No. 2 Hokies clinch Regular Season ACC Title with run-rule of Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass.  The No. 2 Virginia Tech softball team clinched the 2022 ACC regular season title Saturday afternoon, run-ruling Boston College 9-0 in six innings. The Hokies are currently 20-2 in conference play, with one more regular season game left on Sunday against the Eagles.

Freshman Emma Lemley threw a three-hit shutout to lead the Hokies over the Boston College Eagles 9-0. Lemley (15-4) went the distance for Virginia Tech (38-6, 20-2), giving up three hits, walking two and striking out seven.

Sophomore Emma Ritter led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 3-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Sophomore Cameron Fagan was hot at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Addy Greene also contributed, going 1-for-1 for Virginia Tech with a pinch-hit double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Virginia Tech pushed across two runs in the frame, with the second run coming on an RBI double from senior Mackenzie Lawter.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the third and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored five times. The big hits in that inning were a three-run home run off the bat of Ritter and a two-run double from Greene.
