No. 5 Hokies clinch series in shutout victory against No. 22/20 UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Freshman Emma Lemley picked up where Keely Rochard left off on Sunday, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies past the No. 22/20 UCF Knights 7-0. The Hokies allowed just one hit in 14 innings in today's doubleheader.

Lemley (11-1) went the distance for Virginia Tech (27-3), giving up one hit, walking two and striking out 12.

Junior Kelsey Bennett led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Freshman Bre Peck furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Darby Trull also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Virginia Tech with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Bennett put Virginia Tech on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Kama Woodall.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the seventh when they scored three times. Two of those three runs scored on a two-RBI double from Trull.
