LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Nine Hokies will be traveling out west for the 2022 US Open on April 29-30 at the Southpoint Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The contingent is comprised of current student-athletes Sam Latona, Cooper Flynn, Clayton Ulrey, Sam Fisher, Andy Smith, and Hunter Catka, incoming freshmen Caleb Henson and TJ Stewart, as well as alumn, Ty Walz.

Latona (61-kilograms), Smith (97-kilograms), and Ty Walz (125-kilograms) are entered in the Senior division. Walz – national team member and 2017 world bronze medalist – is the three seed, 2021 US Open bronze medalist Smith earned the four seed, while Latona will enter the bracket unseeded. The top-seven place winners in their respective weight classes qualify their ticket for the 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament which will take place May 20-22 in Coralville, Iowa.
 
In the U20 division, Flynn (57-kilograms), Henson (70-kilograms), Ulrey (74-kilograms), Fisher (86-kilograms), Stewart (86-kilograms), and Catka (125-kg) represent Tech during the weekend's event. The Hokies will compete to place in the top-eight for a chance to wrestle at the Junior World Team Trials on June 6 in Geneva, Ohio to represent the United States at the Junior World Championships this upcoming Fall.
