Tech drops Commonwealth Clash meeting, 6-1

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech suffered a setback against No. 13 Virginia on Saturday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. In the 6-1 defeat, the Hokies picked up a point on Court 6 from Charlotte Cartledge, the reigning ACC Player of the Week.
 
In doubles, Chhinda Som and Rita Pinto were on the cusps of picking up a win before the Cavaliers clinched the point with triumphs on Court 1 and Court 2.
 
As the match moved to singles, Virginia showcased why it's the 13th-ranked squad in the country with two-set victories on five courts.
 
Virginia Tech's lone point came from Carteldge on Court 6, who picked up a third-consecutive win in ACC play. After dominating the first set 6-0, her opponent took the match to a 10-point tiebreaker, which Cartledge won, 10-5.
 
The Hokies will return to play at home Friday, April 8, against NC State.
