ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 5 Virginia Tech softball team begins its time in the Sunshine State on Sunday, taking on No. 22/20 UCF in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. The Hokies and Knights play the final game of the series on Monday at 6 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies swept Pitt last Friday, tallying their fourth straight ACC sweep of the season. Tech took down the Panthers 12-3 (5) and 7-2 before the final game of the series was canceled due to weather. In game one, Ritter went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run in addition to her three RBIs and Bailey put together a 1-for-2 day with a home run, supplementing her three RBI performance for the Hokies. Freshman Emma Lemley took a perfect game into the seventh inning in the game two win, striking out 14 Panthers along the way. Ritter once again led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK (AGAIN)
For the second time in her Hokie career, freshman Emma Lemley was named ACC Pitcher of the Week. Lemley earned Co-Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 on the week, including the first no-hitter of her career against Longwood. The right-hander got the start in game one against Longwood, going the distance and striking out 13 along the way to her first career no-hitter. She walked only two batters in the 5-0 Hokie win. Lemley followed that up with another double-digit strikeout appearance on Friday against Pitt.
SOPHOMORE SUCCESS
Sophomores Emma Ritter, Cameron Fagan and Addy Greene have been leading the Hokies at the plate, ranking 1-3 in batting average so far this season. Ritter leads the charge hitting .467 on the season with 26 RBI and five home runs. Her slugging percentage currently sits at .813. Fagan has 34 hits with a .386 average, posting two doubles, two triples and one home run. She currently has 11 RBI on the year. Greene has been making an impact in the DP spot, hitting her first home run of the weekend against Pitt. She has three doubles on the year, hitting .357 in 42 at bats.
HOKIE LONG BALL
Tech has hit 30 home runs this season, halfway to its total of 60 hit a season ago. Thirteen different Hokies have at least one home run, including all of the Tech starting lineup. Bre Peck and Emma Ritter lead the team with five apiece so far this season.
