CLEMSON, S.C. – Virginia Tech women's tennis closed out its regular season on Sunday afternoon in a 6-1 defeat to No. 57 Clemson.
Sized up against some talented competition, the Hokies hung around, but couldn't close against the Tigers. Annie Clark and Katie Andreini put together a decisive showing on Court 2 in doubles with a 6-2 win. Clemson's ranked doubles pair downed Elizabet Danailova and Rita Pinto on Court 1, then the home side clinched the doubles point with a tight 7-5 result in on Court 3.
Clemson picked up quick wins on Court 4 and Court 6 to extend its lead to 3-0.
Semra Aksu brought some life for Tech on Court 5 with a 6-4, 6-4 win. However, the Tigers clinched its win on Court 3 shortly after.
The Hokies had an opportunity to bring the final to 4-3, as Tamara Barad Itzhaki and Danailova battled until the end. Barad Itzhaki ultimately fell on Court 2 to No. 106 Cristina Mayorova in a third set 10-point tiebreaker, while Danailova dropped a marathon match in three sets on Court 1.
Tech now moves its attention towards the ACC Women's Tennis Championship where it will play Clemson again on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the No. 12 and No. 13 match.
