PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — Virginia Tech turned in its final scorecard at the ACC Women's Golf Championship with a cumulative score of 29-over-par. The Hokies wrapped up their time at The Reserve Golf Club tied for seventh place with North Carolina State with a combined score of 893.
The Hokies entered Friday tied for fourth place at nine over par through two rounds, but the Hokies struggled early in the round and were not able to sustain the momentum from Thursday's second round.
No team finished the third round under par on Friday.
Emily Mahar finished day two and round three with a score of 74 and two over par. Mahar is tied for eighth in the individual category and ended the two-day stint only one over par. She racked up nine total birdies on the week and birdied hole No. 4 every round. Mahar's top eight finish is her sixth top 10 of the season.
Duke's Phoebe Brinker won the ACC individual championship with a 10-under 206.
Wake Forest (864), Florida State (869) and Duke (873) round out the top three for stroke play. Virginia (880) locked up the fourth and final spot for Saturday's match play semifinals and clinched the point for the Commonwealth Clash over the Hokies. The loss gives the Cavaliers one point in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 9.5.- 5.5 in favor of Virginia Tech.
The Hokies now shift gears and focus their attention on the NCAA Regionals as they seek their fourth straight bid. Virginia Tech reached the National Championship a season ago for the first time in program history.
