Tech secures ninth victory with 17-6 win at Coastal Carolina Wednesday

The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (9-7, 2-5) earned a 17-6 win in the penultimate game of the regular season Wednesday afternoon on the road at Coastal Carolina.

Olivia Vergano and Sarah Lubnow each scored four goals in the game and grad student Sam Rippley came off the bench to score four points and secure six draw controls for the Hokies who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Morgan Berman got the win in goal after registering five saves in 48 minutes before handing off the reigns to Lilly Kannapell who finished the game in the cage.

How It Happened
The first quarter was a back and forth affair with the Chanticleers scoring first, followed by two Hokie goals before Coastal again took the lead. Vergano scored with 36 seconds remaining to tie the game up heading into the second frame. 

From there, the Hokies would start to distance themselves owning a 5-1 advantage in the second quarter to take a 9-5 lead into the half.

In the third, Tech scored seven times, while the defense held the Chants scoreless.

With the running clock in the game, there were fewer opportunities in the final frame, but Tech did score through senior Sara Goodwin who had the last tally of the afternoon.

What's next
The Hokies will play at home against the rival Virginia on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. The program will celebrate its graduating seniors in a postgame ceremony that night.
