No. 21 Hokies swing big during 10-6 win at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The No. 21 Virginia Tech Hokies broke through after a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning to take down the Liberty Flames 10-6 Tuesday.

Junior Jonah Hurney (2-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (21-8). The southpaw went 1.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Senior Ryan Kennedy also made an impact on the mound for the Hokies, starting the ballgame and throwing three shutout innings while allowing three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Offensively, the Hokies were paced by sophomore Cade Hunter, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, a home run and three RBI. Junior Nick Biddison put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Junior Nick Holesa also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding two doubles and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Biddison.

After the Flames rallied to tie the ballgame at four, the Hokies came back to retake the lead in the seventh inning. Virginia Tech hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs aross. which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Hokies.

Virginia Tech kept Liberty without a run before expanding their lead to 9-4 the following inning. The Hokies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Eduardo Malinowski.

Virginia Tech held the Flames without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Hokies scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Biddison, bringing the Virginia Tech advantage to 10-4. Liberty put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hokies still coasted to the 10-6 win.
