LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Hokies return to action on Tuesday afternoon, heading to Lynchburg to take on the Liberty Flames at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies took two games of three from then-No. 2/3 Florida State, defeating the Seminoles 6-3 (9 inn.) and 23-9 in the second game. Game three was an 8-6 win by Florida State. Offensively, the Hokies were led by junior Meredith Slaw in game one, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two home runs and three RBI. Senior Keely Rochard struck out 14 in her 15th win of the season. Records were broken on Saturday as the Hokies took down Florida State 23-9 in game two. The Hokies 23 runs scored set a new school record, topping the record of 22 set against Morgan State in 2014. Tech also set a new school record for team RBIs with 23.
SLAW STATS
Meredith Slaw had an outstanding weekend for the Hokies as the DP, going 7-for-10 against No. 2/3 Florida State. In game one, she hit two home runs, the first of which was a two-run shot that tied the game at 2-2 and the second took the lead at 3-2. In game two, Slaw also hit a home run and a double to add to the Hokies record-setting 23 runs scored against the Seminoles. Slaw finished her weekend with a single in game three. Over her three games played, the junior posted 7 RBI with a 1.700 slugging percentage. She also scored three runs over the weekend.
CLUTCH GENE
The Hokies battled from behind in games one and three of the Florida State series with some help from clutch hitting. Darby Trull came through big in both games, hitting a three-run home run in the top of the ninth in game one to clinch the victory for Hokies. In game three, Trull doubled in the top of the fourth with two outs to tie the game up at 2-2. Addy Greene also came up huge for Tech, hitting an inside the park grand slam in the sixth of game three to put the Hokies up 6-3.
KEELZ DEALZ
Keely Rochard went 2-0 in Tallahassee this weekend, receiving both wins against No. 2/3 Florida State. In the game one win, Rochard struck out 14 and allowed just one earned run on five hits against the Seminoles. She came on in relief in game two, receiving the win and striking out five, allowing just two hits in her 4.0 innings of work. The senior is currently three strikeouts from career strikeout 1,000. She would become the second player in school history to reach 1,000.
