BLACKSBURG. – On a day reserved for recognizing seniors Annie Clark, Elizabet Danailova, Rita Pinto and Chhinda Som, Virginia Tech put up a valiant effort against No. 27 Wake Forest, falling 5-2.
In doubles seniors Pinto and Danailova were knocking on the door of a doubles win, leading 5-4 with the serve, before Wake Forest clinched the point. Clark and Katie Andreini fell to the No. 13-ranked doubles team on Court 1, while Som and Erika Cheng dropped a match on Court 3.
The Hokies continued to battle in singles, but dropped three matches in straight sets, including a match to No. 35 Carolyn Campana on Court 1.
However, after the match was decided in Wake Forest's favor, the Hokies battled back for two wins. Erika Cheng grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 decision on Court 4, while Semra Aksu added a 6-3, 6-4 win for the Hokies, as well.
Dariya Radulova had another win in reach, but fell on Court 3, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8).
Sunday's match wrapped up Tech's home matches for the season, as the Hokies will take on Georgia Tech and Clemson next weekend on the road.Gallery: (4-10-2022) WTEN: 2022 Senior Day
