Hokies suffer 5-2 setback at No. 40 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Despite clinching the doubles point against a ranked foe for the second match in a row, Virginia Tech fell to No. 40 Duke, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
 
Coming off a win against the No. 4 doubles team in the country at North Carolina, Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback picked up another win on Court 1, 6-4. That left the point in the hands of Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza and Scott Sculley on Court 2. Their match came down to a tiebreaker, which they got ahead of early, clinching a 7-6 (4) win.
 
Virginia Tech was poised to compete in singles but came out on the losing end in a handful of tight matches. The Blue Devils picked up straight set wins on Court 2, Court 4 and Court 6.
 
Carlo Donato got the Hokies back in the win column on Court 5, as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
 
Duke was able to lock up the match with a win on Court 1 by No. 118 Garrett Johns over Ryan Fishback, followed by a three-set win over Ariza on Court 
 
The Hokies will be back in action at home on Friday, March 11 against Louisville.
